Farmer paintings，as the name suggests，are pictures drawn by farmers. In the beginning，the genre was chiefly practiced by rural women who，after work，took up painting brushes to portray their life or decorate their houses. The farmer painting as popularly known in China today is，therefore，an indigenous form of Chinese folk art that has primarily evolved from drawings decorating rural household furniture such as kan，gbed-stoves，kitchen ranges，wardrobes and cupboards. It is an art prizing decorativeness and color effects，and pursuing strong visual impression.
