随着人类社会的发展与科学技术的进步，各学科之间不断地相互渗透，动物微生物学的任务与作用发生了很大改变，已扩展到了生物学、医学、公共卫生、环境保护等多个领域，对保护人类健康和提高经济生活水平具有极其重要的作用。因此，我们组织编写了理论与实际相结合的本参考书。
《动物微生物学（英文版）》的内容较多，各院校在讲授时可根据具体情况进行适当的安排。《动物微生物学（英文版）》既注重理论知识的阐述，又注重专业知识的介绍；既注意理论教学，又注意实际操作，并将近年来研究进展较快的一些新内容做了适当介绍。
