本书内容提要：（一）整体情况：《中国》以介绍中国的基本情况为主，向外国读者展示中国在政治、经济、文化等各领域的现状与发展变化。此次改版，在2011年的基础上，一方面，继续避免使用过多的动态经济数据，着重反映相对稳定的文化形态、经济状态、体制情况等。另一方面，当年的重大事件仍将作为专题出现。二、具体修改内容（一）内容改写：1、“国土资源”与“历史概况”部分：进行基本事实的修订。2、“行政区划与城市”一章：重新修改结构，科学设置层级，增加“自治区”等的介绍，更新“城市化进程”相关内容。3、“人民” 一章：重点改写“老龄化社会”，增加最新情况。4、“政治制度与国家机构”一章：根据最新权威表述改写，尤其是“基层群众自治制度”、“中国共产党”、“社会管理创新”等重点修改。5、“中国与世界” 一章，全章重写：根据中国外交现状介绍外交基本情况和最新情况。6、“国民经济”一章：增加最新情况，比如“稳重求进”等，更新数字。7、“环境保护”一章：修订了中国应对气候变化、中国的民间环保两个小节；并重点撰写中国空气治理、水污染治理、中国的生物多样性等内容。8、“教育与科技”一章：重点修订教育基本体系、教育规划、教育投入的变化等。9、“生活与文化”一章：重点改写医疗保障情况、楼市问题与政府的频繁举、文化体制改革等。10、增加了专题“中国共产党强国之路”。（二）更新图片。更新全书80%的图片，形象体现中国的发展变化。
