During my fifst trip to Beijing I gradually started to see why this city is so important on the global stage as a cultural and political center, an economic powerhouse, and a microcosm of all that is Chinese. Of course, just as you need to understand where a person has come from to truly be able to know that person and take a guess at where he is going, we first need to understand some of Beijing's tustory, so that is where we will start, We will talk about the history briefly; I'll do my best to present it in an entertaining way so that you won't fall asleep on me.
