本书试图从一个具有国家情怀的人权研究者的角度理解中国的人权状况和人权进步的内在逻辑。作者认为,人权保障在理念上是所有人都无条件赞成和支持的,但在人权保障的方式和路径的选择上则不应该也不可能是一成不变的。对于13亿中国人而言,只有他们自己才有资格决定自己应该如何保障人权,如何走出一条适合自己的人权道路。

作者介绍:

刘杰,男,1965年生于四川省内江市,1995年毕业于复旦大学国际政治系,获法学博士学位。现任上海社会科学院政治与公共管理研究所所长、人权研究中心主任,研究员,华东师范大学双聘教授。兼任中国人权研究会理事、上海政治学会副会长。自2003年以来长期主编《中国政治发展进程》(年度报告,迄今共10卷),曾主编《国际关系研究》(共23卷)。个人先后出版《美国与国际人权法》、《人权与国家主权》等专著11部,发表学术论文200多篇。近年来主要从事人权理论、中国政治发展等方面的研究。
