《新核心大学英语》系列教材分为3个级别，供三个学期使用。每一级分别有《读写教程》、《泛读教程》、《听说教程》和《词汇手册》，每本书均分为八个单元。这些教材和手册在同一主题下紧密联系在一起。《读写教程》通过相同的主题，在内容补充和练习安排方面统辖其他两个教程和一个手册，也就是说，其他教程和词汇手册都是为《综合教程》所制定的单元教学总目标服务，提供听说读写和词汇方面的材料和练习。三个教程和手册真正做到浑然一体。
