Ⅰ.阅读理解
Throughout my life, I have been active in outdoor sports, and biking is always my favorite.
As a team captain, I made a lot of new friends, one of them being my cocaptain, an autistic (患自闭症的) boy whose name is Elijah. As Elijah knew nothing about riding a bike, his father, Steve, informed me that they needed some help from me. Not only did he want me to teach a kid with special needs something that I loved, but also he hoped that I would help his son build up confidence. I agreed to be up for the tough task, with no idea about what I was getting myself into.
During the first few days, I really struggled to teach Elijah how to balance and ride on his own. I found that I was having no patience with Elijah. Now I realize that it was perhaps because for me riding a bike was like "riding a bike", but for Elijah it might be something much bigger. On the fourth day, something crazy happened, and I could finally stay calm and focus on the task. Then Elijah progressed more than I ever thought he was going to. By the end of the week, he was able to ride a bike all by himself. I felt so good that I was able to overcome my impatience to push him to his limits and make him realize that he was the same as anyone else and was able to do many things that he once thought he couldn't.
I taught him to ride a bike and he taught me that my limits are not where I should stop. I can always progress and find the great joy in pushing myself to progress.
