On June 12, 1942, Anne Frank's parents gave her a small red-and-white-plaid diary 19 her thirteenth birthday present and on July 6, 1942, her family had to go into hiding. Though they could take very few things with them, Anne brought her diary to her new home, which she called "Secret Annex."
