Cardiovascular (心血管的) death and hospitalization (住院治疗) rates in Canada have gone down, according to a new study on the treatment of high blood pressure, a drop that agreed with the introduction of a high blood pressure education program which was designed to inform healthcare providers and the public.

It's reported that compared with before the program started, in the first five years of the program:

One in seven fewer strokes resulted in death.

One in five fewer heart failures resulted in death.

One in ten fewer heart attacks resulted in death.

"Canada really has become a world leader in the treatment and control of high blood pressure. If you're a Canadian with high blood pressure, this is a hopeful thing," said Campbell, a professor in the department of medicine and community health science at the University of Calgary.

High blood pressure can double or triple the danger of heart disease and stroke, said Sally Brown, CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. "With correct judgment and treatment, including forming a healthy lifestyle, Canadians can cut their danger of stroke by up to 40 percent and heart attack by up to 25 percent," said Brown.

For the study, researchers followed up rates of death and hospitalization because of heart attacks, heart failure and strokes among people aged 20 and older. The education program includes information on measuring blood pressure, making lifestyle changes and offering treatment.

The program for improving health care could be accepted by other countries with welldeveloped skilled and scientific societies. Russia and China have expressed interest in Canada's program, and Campbell has talked about the program in China and Europe.
