My blogs have focused on the value of family storytelling for developing identity in life. Similarly，collective storytelling within communities builds identity.

My Emory colleagues and I have been involved in telling the Emory story for many years， but one really fun plan we began a few years ago was Emory Story Circles. We organized a series of storytelling events built on ideas from NPR's Story Corps and grassroots community organizers，to use our personal and Emory stories，to create bonds. In these story circles of about 8 people including students，staff and community members，each person told a personal story connecting them to the institution.

Our first story circle was co-led by Salman Rusdie，the great author. He treated us all with stories about his experiences as a college student studying history. Then we broke into our own story circles，and each of us told our own story about our Emory experience. Through these stories
