  Last April, my husband James and I went for a walk in the countryside.We were climbing a hill when I saw a sheep lying on its side and not moving. From afar, it looked as if it was dead, but then I saw a leg move. I went over and saw the head and hooves(蹄)of a lamb coming out of her body. The head had become dry.

  The sheep was hardly breathing, and I thought it was completely tired. The lamb was not moving. We watched for a few minutes, but there was no movement. So despite knowing nothing about sheep, I said I was going to help.

  James googled "how to deliver(接生)a lamb"and told me how to do it. One important bit of information was that if the head is out and the two front hooves are tucked(缩拢) under the chin(下巴),that' s the correct birthing position.

  I knelt down and put one hand around the back of the lamb's head and one on its chest, so that I could put my hands inside the sheep slightly. Finally, the lamb slipped out into my arms. After a minute, I felt a heartbeat. I felt joyous.
