Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Warming up and lead-in
1. Human beings are powerful; they have invented many things, and they have been changing nature and the world.Have you ever considered how weak humans are compared with a volcano, hurricane or earthquake? Can you list some natural disasters?
2. Show some pictures of volcanoes, let the Ss know something about the categories of volcanoes and the eruption of volcanoes.

Step 2 Pre-reading
Ask the Ss the following questions:
(1) Who studies volcanoes?
(2) Who will climb into a live volcano to take the temperature of the boiling rock inside?

2. Read again and try to find out main ideas of each part.

Part 2(Para 3-4) The writer's job and its importance
Part 3(Para 5 The reasons for the writer's enthusiasm about his job.
