50 years ago Dr. Jane Goodall began her research

Fifty years ago a young Jane Goodall, then 26, stepped on the shorts of Lake Tanganyika, in what is now Tanzania's Gombe National Park. That step changed the way people view the natural world.

Today Dr. Goodall is a world-renowned primatologist, conservationist and UN Messenger of Peace. Her Jane Goodall Institute (JGI)has pioneered multiple scientific discoveries.

"It is hard to believe that 50 years have passed since I began my study of the chimpanzees of Gombe," said Dr. Goodall in a press release. "Half a century of amazing discoveries have helped us redefine our place in the natural world. And most amazing of all is knowing how much more the chimpanzees have to teach us. I look forward to moving into the next half century."
