1.the second largest /biggest 第二大

【典型例句】

It's the second most interesting novel，but not the first best one.

在最有趣的小说中，这本书名列第二，不是第一。

She is the third best student in class. 她在班上名列第三。

The Huanghe River is the second longest river in China.

黄河是中国第二大河。

Canada is the second biggest country in the world.

加拿大是世界上第二大国家。

【知识小结】

"the +序数词+形容词最高级+n."表示"第几......"的意思。序数词可以修饰形容词的最高级。有时在形容词最高级前不加定冠词the,而是加不定冠词a 或an，表示"很；非常"；没有"最......的"意思。

如：This is a most interesting novel.

这是一本非常有趣的小说。

另外，当序数词前加定冠词时，表示"第几......"，但当序数词前加不定冠词时表示"再......；又......"。如：

He has eaten two apples ,and he wants to have a third one.

他已吃了两个苹果，他还想吃一个。
