【经典例句】The major portion of the population live in the east of the country.

【考点聚焦】 1)major和它的反义词minor都没有比较级,不能与than 连用,也不能与to连用。如:

This is a major new book about English teaching methods.

2)能与to 连用,但不能与than连用的词有:superior(优秀的;高级的);inferior(下等的;下级的);senior(年长的;地位高的);junior(年少的;后进的)

3)派生词:majority n.多数;大多数

4)反义词:minor adj.较小的,次要的

5)major也可作名词,意思是"主修课程；少校";作动词时,意思是"主修",常与介词in连用。

4)represent有时可作"扮演"讲,如:
