I. Teaching Content Analysis
This passage which includes two parts ,the first part is a letter, the second part is an internet page ,mainly talks about grandad wrote to James to persuade him to quit smoking ,in which mainly talks about three questions : how people are addicted to smoking ;why we should quit smoking; and how we can stop smoking . The topic is familiar to the students but the whole text is hard to understand because of a lot of information and too much implied information especially grandad's feelings change and his love for his grandson which is scattered in the whole passage. Students are supposed to solve these three questions and form right attitude towards smoking .
1. Important Points
1) Students understand and master some advanced words and phrases and sentence pattern.
2) Students access and synthesize some shallow and inner information in the passage.
3) Students learn to take right attitude towards smoking.
2. Difficult Points
1) Students get better understanding of grandad's purpose and feeling changes.
II. Learner's Analysis
The students are from Grade Three, Class Eight of Panan No.2 Middle School which is a key class of this school. The students have a sound foundation of English learning, active classroom atmosphere. But there is still great room for them to improve: their English levels are significantly different; their ability of accessing and synthesizing information and their oral English are not excellent enough. To solve these problems, there are various activities in this period such as :prediction ,finding topic sentences and titles; filling in blanks ;summary;
