【用法】update既可作动词又可作名词。

★update作动词时，意为：①更新；②提供最新信息。如：

It's about time we updated our software.

I called the office to update them on the day's developments.

★update作名词时，意为"最新报道，最新消息"。如：

The president gets regular updates from the National Security Council.

【考例】It's important for the figures _____ regularly. (北京2011)

A. to be updated B. to have been updated

C. to update D. to have updated

【点拨】update与figures之间是逻辑上的动宾关系，故排除C、D两项；update所表示的动作并非在谓语所表示的情况之前发生，故排除B项，选to be updated。

2. take over

【用法】take over意为：①占上风，取而代之；②接替，接任，接管。如：

Our defense took over in the second half of the game.

When she fell ill her daughter took over the business from her.
