Finish activities 1-3 in Vocabulary and Listening part on pages 55-56.

使用说明与学法指导:通过完成课前预习练习题复习与动物有关的词汇,完成时间20分钟。

教材助读:

I.Use your dictionary or word list to finish Activity 1 on P55.

II. Finish Activity 2 on P55. Read the four short passages as quickly as you can, and then match the descriptions with the photos.

III. Finish Activity 4 on P98. Learn more words about animals and then match the words with their groups.

质疑探究:

I. Look at the maps on P56 and think about the following questions.

1. What is the continent?

2. There is a nature reserve in the picture. What's its name?

3. If you were a volunteer there, which animals would you talk about? Why?

II. Now listen to the tape carefully and finish Activities 4,5 and 6.

III. Fill in the blanks.

Interviewer: William Norris has just returned from South Africa, _____ he was a volunteer in the Tembe Nature Reserve. William, how long were you there for?

William Norris: Only three months, unfortunately.

Interviewer: What wild animals can you see in the reserve?

William Norris: Elephants, mainly. Elephants are still being killed by poachers in other parts of Africa. It's really _______. But at least in the reserve they are protected.

Interviewer: How many are there in the reserve?

William Norris: About 250, I think.

Interviewer: What other animals are there?

William Norris: There are plenty of other mammals including lions, and a ____species of antelope the suni antelope.

Interviewer: What was your job?

William Norris: My job was to keep an eye on the lions. We had to study their behaviour and _______ their movements in the reserve.

Interviewer: That _______ dangerous. Was it dangerous?

William Norris: Yes, I suppose it was. I had to go out in the jeep at night with two rangers(公园管理员), and look for them.

Interviewer: Did you see them often?
