1介词的选用至少要考虑以下的两个因素

A.与先行词的搭配关系

B. 与谓语动词的搭配习惯

注意: 含有介词的动词短语一般不能拆开使用, 如:look for, look after, take care of 等等.

Eg: Tom is the boy who /that/whom I am looking for. √

Tom is the boy for whom I am looking. ×

（1） why　先行词是表示原因的名词（reason）,关系词在从句中做原因状语表示原因

（2） where先行词是表示地点的名词,关系词在从句中做地点状语表示地点

（3） when　先行词是表示时间的名词,关系词在从句中做时间状语表示时间

（4） that　先行词是表示方式的名词（way）,关系词在从句中做方式状语表示方式（注意：定语从句中如果先行词是the way, 关系词常用 in which, that，且关系词可以省略）

That is the reason why he was late. =That is the reason for which he was late.

This is the school where I have studied for three years.=This is the school in which I have studied for three years.

I will always remember the day when I saw you.=I will always remember the day on which I saw you.

I don't like the way (that)you speak to your mother.=I don't like the day (in which) you speak to your mother.
