T: Look at the screen. Do you know who they are? And what are they famous for?
Show the following pictures on the screen.
S: The woman in the first picture is Madame Curie, and she won the Nobel Prize for her great discovery of radium. The second one is Martin Luther King who was devoted his life to the career of fighting for the freedom of the black people.
T: You are right. They are people who are determined to achieve their goals. All of us must have a goal in our life. You may say they are great people. It is true, but without a goal, our life is meaningless. So I want to know what your goals are. Now turn to page 7 and look at the list in part 1. Tell the class what is important to you. Show your opinion freely.
S: The most important thing to me is to do well in exams because I am a student. To go to a good college, I must have good marks.
S: The most important thing to me is to be with my family and friends. One cannot live alone. Living without family or friends, whatever we have, we are actually poor.
S: The most important thing in my life is to have a lot of money. Being a rich person enables me to have a lot of things that I want to have: a beautiful car, a big house, a lot of clothes and so on.
T: OK. I am very glad that all of you have your goals. So do I. My goal is that all of you can work harder and enter good universities. Only work hard can we achieve our goals. Recently, I know a girl whose goal is to have a lot of money. Do you want to get to know her?
S: Yes.
