Ask the students to explain the scale in activity 1 first.
T: Now, work with your partner, first try to explain the scale on the right in your own words and then discuss about different cultures. Then report your work to the class.
S1: I think in the culture of the United States, people are open and free to express themselves and they show everything they feel.
S2: The British people are comparatively conservative and they don't show their feelings as freely as Americans do as a result of the history and culture.
S3: I think the Italians and the Japanese are just in between. They are neither too open nor too conservative.
T: As you can see from the scale, people in different cultures usually act and express themselves in different ways. Therefore it becomes important for us to learn about different cultures and how to communicate in different cultures. Next, let's listen to learn.
