4. 句首为表示地点的介词短语时。例如：

　　On the wall hang two pictures.

　　On both sides of the street were rows of houses.

　　In the center of the square stands a monument.

二. 部分倒装的用法

　1. 用于以never，hardly，scarcely，nor，seldom，little，rarely，nowhere，not，at no time，by no means，not a bit，not once，not in the least，in no way等否定副词或短语开头的句子中。 例如：

　　Not a single word did he say at the meeting.

　　Little does she have interest in clothes.

　2. 含有否定意义的连接词如not until ...，not only ... but also ...，neither ... nor ...，no sooner ... than ...，hardly / scarcely ... when ...等置于句首时。例如：

　　No sooner had I left the house than it began to rain.

　　Not until recently did I have any idea of what market economy is.

　3. 当only后接状语（副词、介词短语、状语从句）位于句首时常要倒装。例如：

　　Only in my house do they feel at home.

　　Only when his mother came back did he go to bed.

　4. 省略了if的虚拟条件句，以had / were / should开头时须倒装。例如：

　　Had he worked harder, he would have got through the exams.

　　Should it rain tomorrow, the match would be put off.

　5. 在某些表示愿望的感叹句中，要使用倒装语序。例如：

　　May our country become rich and strong!

　　Long live our friendship!

　6. so（表示肯定），neither / nor / no more（表示否定）置于句首，表示前面所说的情况也适应于后者时，须用倒装语序，常用于"so / neither / nor / no more + 助动词 / 情态动词 + 主语"结构。例如：

　　They can swim well. So can we.

　　I have no money on me. Nor / Neither have I.

　　注意：当so表示对前句内容的肯定和附和，译作"确实如此"时，须用陈述语序。例如：- Tom works hard.

　　- So he does.
