because of：后面接名词、动名词，构成原因状语

　　e.g. He was late for the meeting because of the bad weather.

　　 Because of the bad news, she fell ill.

4、appear / seem / look

appear：显得、好像，是给人的一种表面印象，含有事实并非如此之意。

　　e.g. The sky appears (to be) blue to us on earth.

　　 It appeared that he was talking to himself.

　　 There appears to be no one in the room.

seem：似乎、好像，指：经过前后比较、分析所作出的近乎事实的推想。

　　e.g. He seems to be her father, for their faces are alike.

　　 It seems that he has made some serious mistakes.

　　 It seems as if it were spring already.

　　 There seems to be many people on the square.

look：好像、看上起，指对方在外表上给人的视觉感受。

　　e.g. He looks to be 40 or so.

　　 She looks young for her age.

　　 It looks to rain soon.

　　 He looks as if he were in his 50's.

5、so that / so ... that

so that：从属连词，引导目的状语从句或结果状语从句。当引导目的状语从句时，从句中要用情态动词。

e.g. I got up very early so that I could catch the first train to Beijing.

They are very clever so (that) they won the first prize.

so ... that：如此......以至......

　　e.g. The child was so smart that he worked out the problem in no more than 5 minutes.

　　 We are so busy that we hardly have time for a rest.

6、hope / wish

hope：（对将来的）希望，表示有可能实现的愿望，后接：to do / that ...will ...

　　e.g. We all hope to visit your school in the near future.

　　 I hope that he will / can help me with my English.

注：我们不说：hope sb. to do sth,

wish：希望、（表达不大肯能或更本不可能的愿望）但愿、祝愿，后接：to do / sb. to do / sb sth. / sb. + adj. / that ....从句中动词用过去时态或表示虚拟。

　　e.g. I wish to see all of my friends soon.

　　 My father wished me to study harder and go to a good college.

　　 Wish you success / a happy birthday / a pleasant journey .....

　　 Wish every one of you happy / successful ... .

　　 He wished that he were a good student.

　　 He wished that he had seen the film already.

　　 She wished that she would go there, too.

7、collect / gather

collect：指精心地、有目的、有选择地进行收集、取、接。

　　e.g. - Do you collect stamps? - Yes, but I only collect animal stamps.

Would you be kind enough to collect my daughter from school?
