【设计说明】:本单元的话题为健康生活，而本篇课文是爷爷以写信的形式，通过自身的经历来劝说孙子-James禁烟，主要讲述了人们为什么会对吸烟上瘾；吸烟会产生什么危害，以及如何戒烟这三个问题。单元话题-A healthy life笔者认为太大，所以导入部分直接以"我们年少时，经常犯的一个错误--"吸烟""为切入口，并将文中的主要人物Grandad、Granson(James)称为是自己的爷爷和弟弟，这样会吸引学生对话题的兴趣（因为学生对老师的有关事情比较感兴趣），并且以自己弟弟(James)的"怎样开始吸烟-吸烟上瘾-想戒烟"的故事配以图片来引出和让学生感知课文中的一些重点词汇如：adolescence/adolescent、curiosity、be addicted to 、tough 、quit 、desperate、 granddad等。最后以'if you were Grandad , what would you write to James, can you predict? '让同学们预测文本的内容，培养学生的预测能力。同时也训练本单元的重点句型（与现在事实相反，虚拟语气的表达句型）。预测之后让同学们阅读文本，以检测他们的预测是否正确，自然而然让学生进入到文本阅读阶段。
