【设计说明】:本单元的话题为健康生活,而本篇课文是爷爷以写信的形式,通过自身的经历来劝说孙子-James禁烟,主要讲述了人们为什么会对吸烟上瘾;吸烟会产生什么危害,以及如何戒烟这三个问题。单元话题-A healthy life笔者认为太大,所以导入部分直接以"我们年少时,经常犯的一个错误--"吸烟""为切入口,并将文中的主要人物Grandad、Granson(James)称为是自己的爷爷和弟弟,这样会吸引学生对话题的兴趣(因为学生对老师的有关事情比较感兴趣),并且以自己弟弟(James)的"怎样开始吸烟-吸烟上瘾-想戒烟"的故事配以图片来引出和让学生感知课文中的一些重点词汇如:adolescence/adolescent、curiosity、be addicted to 、tough 、quit 、desperate、 granddad等。最后以'if you were Grandad , what would you write to James, can you predict? '让同学们预测文本的内容,培养学生的预测能力。同时也训练本单元的重点句型(与现在事实相反,虚拟语气的表达句型)。预测之后让同学们阅读文本,以检测他们的预测是否正确,自然而然让学生进入到文本阅读阶段。
