T: Gerund can be used as the Subject, like No 4: "Running is a good sport". It can also be put after a verb, such as the way in No 1: "Stop smoking." We call the part in the sentence: "Object". I mean the "V-object". We also can put it after a preposition. For example: "Trees can keep soil from being washed away". In this sentence, "being washed away" is the object of the preposition "from". It is so-called "Prep-object".
