pick sb. up在句中是"把某人扶起来"的意思。

　He picked the old man up and gave him some food.

【注意】pick up 还表示"接某人；无意间学会；拾起；接收；停下来让人搭车；（经济、病情）好转"等含义。

(1) it is thought to be ...表示"它被认为是......;人们认为......",

it 指代前面提到的the marathon。此句型属于"sb./sth. be thought/said/believed/ reported to do..."结构。

Eg: 1.It is believed that they are doing something special.

　　　人们认为他们在做一些特殊的事情

2. It was thought that my brother had been cheated in the shop.

（2）"It is/was thought/said/believed/reported that..."可转换成

"sb. be thought/said/believed /reported to do..."结构。

I.写法指导：

写好该类文章应注意以下几个方面：

1.通知上方正中应写上Notice 或NOTICE。

2.通知正文包括：被通知对象、时间、地点、注意事项等。

3.发通知的单位可以放在正文的右下方或正文前，有时可省。

4.发通知的日期写在正文左下角且低于通知发出单位或右上方。

5.一般采用第三人称，时态常用现在或将来时态。

书面通知常用以下语句：
