T: A phrasal verb is a verb that is composed of two or more words. Phrasal verbs can be subclassified into three categories. Now look at the screen.

Show the following on the screen:

1 Verb + preposition, e.g.:

In the valley we came across a group of Mexicans.

2 Verb + adverb particle, e.g.:

A fire broke out during the night.

3 Verb + adverb particle + preposition, eg:

I try to come up with others.

T: Now let's learn some phrasal verbs. Turn to page 23 and match the phrasal verbs in Exercise 7 with those in bold in the text.

After 2 minutes, check the answers with the whole class. Then get the students to finish Exercise 8 on page 23, Exercises3 and 5 on page 69 and Exercise 3 on page 79. Finally check the answers with the whole class.

T: Just now we did some exercises about the phrasal verbs. I think you have learned how to use the phrasal verbs correctly. But in the phrasal verbs, we should also pay attention to the position of the object of the phrasal verbs. There are some rules about it listed in Exercise 4 on page 69.. Now look at the position of the object in the sentences in Group 1, 2 and 3. Match the groups of verbs with the rules (a-c).

After a while, check the answers together.
